Are you out of work due to COVID-19?
Here’s what you need to know about how to apply for Employment Insurance.
You can apply for Employment Insurance (EI) as soon as you stop working, and you can apply for benefits even if you have not received your Record of Employment (ROE). As someone who has been laid off, you have good reason to apply for EI during this time of concern. The amount of pay you are eligible for will be calculated through the process of applying at the following link:
Make sure that you have all of your correct employment information for the last 52 weeks, plus your SIN (Social Insurance) number and other relevant personal information. Once you have applied and qualify, you will receive your first payment within 28 days.
If you are self-employed the process at the moment is much harder and we are looking into making this process easier. If you are already sick or in quarantine and self-employed please apply for EI. Your application will be processed.
