“Skills to Pay the Bills” will be conducted virtually via Zoom Webinar with 2 sessions a day hosted by CAPS and industry leaders sharing lessons across several key topics with three overriding themes including: Entrepreneurial & Business Skills, Digital Skills, and Sommelier & Wine Skills

We’ll be offering two one-hour sessions per day for four consecutive days from May 25th to May 28th.

Session topics will include:

May 25 – 11:00AM -  Restaurants by the Numbers with Heather McDougall – Covering the 101 of financial language, budgeting, forecasting and reporting and why they’re important within the hospitality environment and beyond.

May 25 – 4:00 PM - Excel @ Excel Unleash the power of Excel with some beginner tips to help you optimize and make this tool work for you for example building a wine list and invoicing with Heather McDougall and Krystina Roman

May 26 -11:00 AM - Future Proof Your Wine List Join Advanced Sommeliers Brie Dema and Julie Garton as they share their experiences and tips on how to manage a beverage program during transitional times. hosted by Lorie O’Sullivan

May 26 – 4:00 PM - Boost Your Brand – The Power of PR - Join Kim Gertler and public relations entrepreneur Susan Willemsen from The Siren Group as they discuss why PR skills are important for getting your message across and how PR can help to build your brand.

May 27 – 11:00 AM - Online Presence 101 - Join Renee Sferrazza (sommelier and social media guru) to learn how to set up your social media for success, learn about content creation and build your brand online.

May 27 – 4:00 PM - Demystifying Digital with Krystina Roman and Lorie O’Sullivan. Learn the basics and optimization tips for your websites, email and eCommerce shops. With 10 years experience, Krys will breakdown the what and how for all things digital to help you sell more and use digital tools to connect with customers.

May 28 – 11:00 AM - Studying Wine Like A Pro How to efficiently study for exams and competitions with #TeamNiagara stars Bill Mochoruk (Advanced CMS candidate) and James Peden (Master CMS candidate).

May 28 – 4:00 PM - Boss Yourself Around: Starting Your Own Business Join ad biz veteran and small wine agency owner Kari Macknight Dearborn as she outlines some of the steps to starting and growing your own company – from getting set up and drafting a business plan, to staying legal and building a strong brand.
