Best Sommelier of the Americas 2012 Véronique Rivest

The Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers is pleased to announce that the grand winner of the Pan American competition for the best sommelier is Véronique Rivest of Canada. She ranked first in front of Ian Caube from the U.S.A. and Thiago Locatelli of Brazil in a grand finale in Bento Gonçalves, Brazil on October 24th, 2012.

In total, 19 candidates from 9 countries were competing: Canada, U.S.A, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile, Peru and Brazil. The two sommeliers representing Canada were Véronique Rivest and William Predhomme. They were respectively first and second at the Canadian best sommelier contest in Halifax last September 18th. Both of our Canadian competitors came in the top six in this prestigious competition.

Congratulations to Véronique Rivest who will be representing the Americas at the World Competition next year in Japan. Will Predhomme’s exceptional performance makes him eligible to represent Canada on the world stage in Tokyo as well. We are extremely proud of our national candidates whose professionalism, high standards, fearless spirit and dedication to their craft have earned them great success and well-deserved international respect.
