Meet Domer Rafael: Best Sommelier of Manitoba

With almost 20 years of experience in the industry, Domer Rafael has held numerous positions (both front and back of the house) in many outlets and establishments in Winnipeg. At the present time, Domer is the Food and Beverage Manager at the Manitoba Club, Western Canada’s oldest private club with its history dating back to 1874. Domer’s role is to oversee a high quality food and beverage program and a wine program that is one of a kind.
While in high school/university pursuing a career in education, Domer gained an appreciation of culinary arts, wine, and cocktails and before enrolling into his final two years of post-secondary school, he decided that food and beverage was the industry he wanted to be in. Domer then enrolled in the International Sommelier Guild Diploma Program, The Canadian Institute of Management, and the Golf Management Institute of Canada to further his career as a management figure in food and beverage. His next accomplishment will be a Certified Club Manager Designation through the Canadian Society of Club Managers.
Domer’s passion for food, wine and cocktails extends outside of work with travels all over the world dining at the top restaurants and cocktail bars, competing in various bartending competitions and being actively involved in the local scene with pop ups, fundraisers and community tastings. Win or lose, Domer will cherish this experience and honor of representing Manitoba at the Best Sommelier in Canada 2017 Competition.
