Professional Sommelier Program

Professional Sommelier Program (PSP)
CAPS and ASI certified
Prerequisite:  WSET Level 3

The Professional Sommelier Program (PSP) is an intensive program of study that provides students with leading skills in the competitive environment of the wine service industry. The program builds a comprehensive understanding of the world’s wines, styles and trends; standards of wine service, menu planning and wine pairing; and builds a critical capacity to synthesize this learning to emerging challenges in industry leadership in wine management, service and training. The program also provides students with an understanding of spirits, beer and other beverages as part of the expectations of professional beverage management.
The 8 month program includes full-day classes each week. The program provides term evaluations of knowledge, skills and tasting. In this way the evaluation is spread out over the program, testing is more thorough on specific topics; and students receive feedback on their performance as the program progresses. A 60-hour stage in wine-service, under supervision and in a restaurant or equivalent professional setting is part of the program.
Graduates of the Jones & Company Wine Merchants Professional Sommelier Program will be recognized as professional sommeliers by CAPS (Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers) and by ASI (Association de la Sommellerie Internationale.
Duration:8 classroom contact hours, once per week for 8 months, plus stage and project work.
