French Wine Scholar

French Wine Scholar Certification Program

This program is an in-depth course focused solely on the wines of France. There are no pre-requisites; however, the program is intended for advanced students of wine, whether professionals or serious hobbyists. The French Wine Society (supported by the Ministry of Agriculture)developed the program and ensures a current and accurate curriculum.

Nine three-hour classes present a survey of French wine-growing regions including seldom mentioned areas such as Jura, Savoie and Corsica, and regions such as SW France and Beaujolais share equal time with famous regions such as Burgundy and Bordeaux.

In addition to a 280-page manual, students receive online access to multi-media E-learning modules review quizzes, and supplemental resources.

Each session includes 6-7 carefully chosen wines intended to reinforce the class material.

The tenth class is a challenging 100 question multiple-choice exam with a pass mark of 75%.

Successful candidates earn the French Wine Scholar (FWS) which may be used as a signature post-nominal.
