From host Darren R.:

“We will explore a range of German Rieslings- from older ‘(99) to not so old (’13).

From Kabinett, Spatlese, and, Auslese.

A variety of producers (many top), from Mosel-Saar-Ruwer, Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Nahe.

12 in total.  4 from each of the three QMP levels aforementioned.

The non-Riesling- ’06 Grauburgunder from Donnhoff. Top producer from the Nahe. Just to start.

’06, a great vintage may have helped this wine hang on for a little bit longer, but I’m afraid she may be past her prime!

Interesting, is what we’re hoping for…

Also from the Nahe, we are blessed to get a wine from this brilliant producer-Emrich Schonleber.

And another from Schaefer!

Three of Nahe’s top producers. This area, at it’s best can show Mosel like minerality,

as well as the body of wines from the Rhine, with Pfalz like fruit!

Rheingau has reinvented itself moving back to drier wines from 100 years earlier.

“Hock”, “Hoch” or wine from Hochheim, was what German wine in Queen Victoria’s England

was coined. Producers like Domdechant Werner, in Hochheim, Freddie Prinz  in Hallgarten (Jungfer vineyard),

and august Kesseller, have injected new life into a region once the king of Rhine wine!

One of Rheinhessen’s best stretch of vineyards is between Nierstein and Nackenheim going north.

We will be tasting a rich spatlese from the well regarded Pettenthal vineyard!

Mosel will be well represented. No worries there!

Max Ferd.Richter ’07 Brauneberger Juffer Kabinett, J.J Prum ’03 Graacher Himmelreich Spatlese,

Markus Molitor ’05 Bernkastleler Graben Auslese, j.Jos Christoffel Jr. ’05 Urziger Wurtzgarten Auslese,

and a gem from Ruwer- Karlsmuhle of Mertesdorf are sole owners of Lorenzhofer vineyard, a top site.

We have their ’99 Auslese!

Great producers, and some great vineyards from a variety of older vintages!

Food throughout the tasting…

Prost!”
